Science Quiz gets a huge response

Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology, Thandalam conducted an Inter- school Science Quiz Competition - 2013 for school students in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, recently. The response was overwhelming, with 3396 students from 35 city schools turning up and after two stages of written examination, 48 students from 11 schools were selected for the final round. Three prizes were awarded for each subject. The first prize was won by Maharishi Vidyamandir, Chetpet in Mathematics; Devi Academy Senior Secondary School, Valasaravakkam in Physics; DAV Boys Senior Secondary School, Gopalapuram in Chemistry and ANNA Gem Science Park Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kotturpuram in Biology. The shield for overall best performance was bagged by DAV Boys Senior Secondary School, Gopalapuram. In all, a total prize money of Rs. 90,000 was awarded to the winners.

Balaji Thirumalai of Clay {+6} was the Quiz Master and the questions were based on school curriculum to test the conceptual understanding and alacrity of the students in answering the questions. Apart from appreciating the correct answers, the Quiz Master explained the context and significance of each question.

The valedictory function was presided by Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson, Rajalakshmi Institutions. Former CMD, Indian Bank, M.S. Sundararajan in his valedictory address, urged the students to continue to show the same enthusiasm in learning in their higher studies and become experts in the chosen field. E.N. Ganesh, Principal, RIT proposed a vote of thanks.

The feedback from the student participants was positive and they also wanted it to be an annual feature. A large number of parents and teachers attended the programme.
