School teacher honoured with Lieutenant Rank

G. Suryanarayanan, associate National Cadet Corps officer of DAV Boys Senior Secondary School, was awarded the rank of Lieutenant on Monday last.

In a brief ceremony held at the DAV Boys School in Gopalapuram, Suryanarayanan, a physics teacher at the school, was decorated with the rank by Commodore Sartaj Imam, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate (Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar).

A faculty of DAV Boys School for three decades now, the new Lieutenant earned the honour for his 26 years of meritorious service for the NCC at the school. “I'm the first person in India to receive such an honour at the school level and I'm really proud of it. I hope to bring laurels to my school and the nation,” said Suryanarayanan after the ceremony.

Jaidev, Secretary, DAV group of schools, Geetha Balachander, principal, DAV Boys School, Lalitha Chandrasekaran, Principal, DAV Girls School, NCC cadets, teachers and students were present at the event.
