Few youngsters are fortunate to enjoy a stint under famous basketball coach like Brendon Jennings of Milwauke eBucks of the NBA. Dharani, a sixth standard student of CSI Ewart Matriculation School, in Purasawalkam is one among them.

She was one of the five players-and the youngest of the group from Chennai-to be selected from the city to participate in the Junior NBA/WNBA Skills Challenge National Championship held at the Don Bosco School in Mumbai last fortnight.

Five boys and five girls from Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune were selected for the course taking into account their skills in shooting, dribbling and passing excellence. The best one named is likely to be sponsored by NBA for experience the thrills US basektball league.

Dharani, whose father Durai Pandi has been a prominent club level basektballer, was initiated into the sport at a tender age. She is now under the tutelage of Railway coach and player Muralinath. There is hope that Dharani with her innate talent and specialised coaching will reach greater heights in the sport.
