Every inch of space at the Jeshwant Nagar Park in Mogappair was occupied by residents and children on January 10. More than 1500 residents of Mogappair and its neighbourhood participated in the Samathuva Pongal Celebrations organised by Mogappair Badminton Association. .

There were Rangoli competitions for women of the locality. ‘Mayilattam', 'Manattam', 'Oyilattam', ‘Poi Kal kudhirai', followed by ‘Uri Adi' were some of the other cultural events which involved the youthResidents prepared Sweet Pongal and shared it with other participants. Different games were organised for children in which more than 300 took part.

Art and Culture Commissioner P.A. Mani said that these programmes are being organised to bring togetherness and social amity among residents.

Moreover, it helps the residents to learn about the village culture and lifestyle during festival days, he said. Pondicherry University Professor M. Elangovan detailed about the importance of folk songs and stressed for continuance of this tradition in the future.

The occasion was graced by number of film personalities like actor Priya and Dr. K. Sivaraman. Bhuvaneswaran, secretary of the MBA were among those present on the occasion.
