R. Raja Rithvik of Andhra Pradesh bagged a silver medal in the Commonwealth Chess Championship-2012 in Under-8 category held at Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Chennai recently.
Rithvik got the second place by scoring 5 points conducted on Swiss league basis in the prestigious international event organised by the Commonwealth Chess Association in which about 300 players from countries such as India, South Africa, Australia, Canada, Phillippines, Singapore, Russia, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Maldives, Uzbekistan, Botswana, Netherlands, Malaysia and Egypt participated.
Raja Rithvik received his silver medal and Merit certificate from J.C.D. Prabhakar, President of All India Chess Federation at the prize distribution function in which Krishnamachari Srikkanth, former captain of the Indian cricket team and later selector, was also present.
Rithvik has an International rating (ELO rating) of 1536 and is being trained by K. Narsimha Rao since the last two years. Previously, Raja Rithvik was the Andhra Pradesh State Champion in the Under-7 category and he has bagged prizes in several national level championships.
