Prayas Trust, Chennai, was conferred with Mary Clubwala Jadhav Award for humanitarian service instituted by The Madras School of Social Work at its diamond jubilee celebration held recently. This award was given to Prayas in recognition of its social values, impact on the society and the accomplishment demonstrated towards humanitarian services.

Suryakumari Ramakrishna, founder president, Prayas Trust; Meena Subrahmanyan, president, Prayas Trust and Sumathi Ramakrishnan, member of Prayas, received the award from Cynthia Pandian, Vice-Chairperson, Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education; Dr. Fathima Vasanth, Principal, MSSW and other senior dignitaries from the School of Social Work at the glittering ceremony organised at the Guild of Service auditorium in Egmore.

Mary ClubwalaJadhav (1909-1975) was an Indian philanthropist and recipient of Padma Shri. She has founded a large number of NGOs in Chennai and rest of the country and is often credited with the honour of setting up the oldest organised social work bodies in India. Her organization Guild of Service operates more than a dozen units related to orphanage, women literacy, care and rehabilitation of the disabled and others. This is the very first award for Prayas and today, Prayas is gratified to have been honoured with such an award named after Mary ClubwalaJadhav, the Sheriff of Madras, for its service to the underprivileged community and this motivates the members to strive towards extending support to a much larger community.
