More than 30 Police officers gathered under the leadership of Paneer Selvam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anna Nagar District, to address public on prevention of crime in flats and residential colonies in and around Anna Nagar.
As many as 300 representatives of residential associations from various parts of the city, namely Anna Nagar, Mogappair East, Mogappair West, Thirumangalam, Villivakkam, Nolambur, Kolathhur, Shenoy Nagar, Aminjikarai etc., gathered at Velammal School.
The emphasis was on prevention of crime and locating the centres of crime before it could happen.
The residents were advised by the officials to thorough check the identity of the servant maids, drivers, and other helpers, by taking proper reference of them prior to their appointment. “Finger prints of the helpers may also be recorded if need be. They could be a source for culprits”, the officers said.
The residents were advised to inform neighbours when they leave for outstations for a long period as this would help to monitor strangers moving around in a suspicious manner.
Mr. Paneer Selvam, in an audio visual presentation showed how surveillance cameras can effectively record the happenings of the environs. “They can serve as efficient watchdogs and immediately sight anomalies which can be reported to the nearest police station. Each residential association can think of installation these cameras as they are now available at affordable rates. The officers further demonstrated how CCTV installed in several scene of crime had recorded the different kinds of modus operandi employed by different offenders (burglars and shop lifters and others).
They screened a recorded murder scene which had taken place at Nelson Manickam Road junction.
