Bangalore-based P N Rao Fine Suits has opened its showroom in Chennai at T T K Road, Alwarpet. The 5,000 sq ft store was inaugurated by Tamil actor Ganesh Venkatraman recently.

“We have different types such as formal wear, wedding wear, ethnic wear, party wear and casual wear in readymade and fabrics,” said Ketan Pishe, partner, P N Rao Fine Suits.

The store offers a wide range of readymade suits from Louis Phillipe, V Dot, Givo, Blackberrys, and Park Avenue. In ethnic wear, it has Eora, Gmen, and Zoop and Raymond. The store uses Reid and Taylor and J Hampstead cloth material for customised suits.

“We had a lot of customers from Chennai coming all the way to Bangalore. Chennai is a good market for suits when compared to other South Indian cities,” added Pishe.

The apparel store was started by P N Rao, grandfather of Ketan Pishe in Bangalore in 1923 to customers who were largely the British and their Army.

“After a few years of inception, readymades started arriving and then came suits and blazers. This required a lot of custom specialisation. We cashed on the opportunity and decided to re-brand ourselves. Soon, P N Rao became a destination for suitings,” he said.

Apart from suitings, the store offers sherwanis, kurtas, and readymade dhoti panchya in Mysore silk.

When asked about future plans Pishe said we would be opening a store in Hyderabad next year.

“The future of fashion industry is brilliant. There is a 10 per cent increase in demand for suits and blazers every year,” he noted.

The tailoring cost is Rs. 6,000 for a two-piece suit and Rs. 400 and Rs. 750 for shirts and pants respectively.

“Our tailoring cost might be expensive. But the material we use is of high-quality. We use German lining for a two-piece suit,” he pointed.

In sutings, they use fabric from brands such as Scabal, Loropina, Ermenegildo Zegna, Dormevil and Reda. Also, tie, kerchiefs, socks, cufflinks, long-wear suits and design suits called Narendra Kumar ready-to-wear suits are available in the outlet. “We have all the leading brands under one roof in shirtings and suitings. We have conducted workshops in companies across India for its employees on how to dress and what must they have in their baggage when going abroad,' added Pishe.
