The Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery has extended a cash support of Rs. 8000 to a destitute housewife for her children's education. This was announced at a meeting of the club at the Madras Race Club, Guindy on July 11. A new team of office bearers was installed, and new projects were announced by the club at the glittering function. G. Olivannan, District Governor of Rotary International District 3230 inducted the new president, V. Balasundaram, and other office-bearers for the rotary year 2010-11. Actor and television personality Revathy Sankaran was the guest of honourat the meeting.
K.R. Mukundhan, charter president of the club handed over office to the incoming president ( and the outgoing secretary, D.K. Uday, handed over the charter of the club to the incoming secretary K. Natarajan.
Mr. Balasundaram, in his acceptance speech, announced that the club has outlined its plans for a long-term “Signature” project in addition to various other near term projects lined up for immediate implementation.
Ms. Revathy Sankaran, in her captivating speech, recalled her long association with the rotary movement and assured her support in implementing various social upliftment projects proposed by the club. The chief guest, Mr. Olivannan, expressed his confidence that the club will continue to excel in its performance under the able leadership of Mr. Balasundaram and his team of experienced office-bearers.
K.S. Srinivasan, assistant governor and the presidents of various rotary clubs and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. Mr. Natarajan, the newly installed secretary of RCCV, proposed a vote of thanks.
