A clash broke out between the members of Metropolitan Transport Corporation and traffic policemen on Grand Southern Trunk Road in Chromepet on last Saturday after a speeding MTC bus (Route No. 114) from Red Hills to Tambaram jumped a traffic signal near a level crossing in Chromepet at 8.45 a.m.

Noticing this blatant violation, a traffic constable on duty pursued the bus on his motorcycle.

When the bus came to a halt at the Chromepet bus stop, he entered the bus and caught hold of the driver's collars. The conductor of the bus came in support of the driver. Meanwhile, a few more MTC members joined the clash.Utter chaos prevailed at the Chromepet bus terminus for nearly 30 minutes. Policemen from Chromepet railway station finally reached the spot and pacified both sections.

The MTC members had taken exception to the manner in which the traffic policeman had entered the vehicle instead of issuing a challan against the errant driver.

Normal flow of traffic was restored around 9.30 a.m.
