Four women radiologists have joined hands and established a diagnostics centre. Athena Diagnostics, as the centre is called, is the brainchild of Dr. Sathyabhama Chandrasekaran. She teamed up with three other radiologists - N. Poornima, R. Shanmughapriya and Sameera Reddy - for the initiative.

The centre at 8/4 Chokalingam Street, Mandaveli (Next to Sri Ranga Hospital, Devanathan Street), has tie ups with community hospitals such as Andhra Mahila Sabha which cater to low-socio economic group. It offers nearly 50 per cent concession for patients referred by these hospitals.

The radiologists have plans of expanding into teleradiology. All the four are very accomplished. They are specialists in different areas. Dr. Poornima specialises in gastro-intestinal radiology (intestinal radiology), Dr. Shanmughapriya in foetal medicine and intervention, and Dr. Sameera Reddy in musculo skeletal radiology.

Dr. Sathyabhama says it needs a good specialist to differentiate the normal from the abnormal with confidence and this is what the centre does. They offer a number of services such as ultrasound with doppler with facilities for value imaging. Guided interventional procedures like biopsies, aspiration and fine needle aspirational cytology and x-ray mammogram at nominal rates.

This system will be very useful for getting an immediate report through a good radiologist. At present, the centre works from 9 a.m. to 4. 30 p.m. There is a plan to extend the timings in the near future.

The centre offers 50 per cent discount till June 10 and for appointments, call 4269 9733 / 98407 68143.
