Independence Day was celebrated in a grand manner at the Southern Railway’s Carriage and Wagon Works, Loco Works and Electrical Workshop, at Perambur on August 15.
Chief Workshop Manager Shashi Bhushan unfurled the tri-colour and took a guard of honour.
In his address he congratulated the Carriage Works for winning the Green Shield award for the year 2011-12 and for creating history by manufacturing DEMU shells for Sri Lanka.
Also he pointed out that the electrical workshop by its efficient operation had saved six lakh units of electricity and thanked the officials of the Loco Works for reviving the 157-year-old Loco Express EIR 221, for which a cash award of Rs. 50,000 was received.
A colourful parade comprising the Railway Protection Force, Scouts and Guide and St. John Ambulance was performed for the audience.
