Dr. Vasumathy Vedantham, Director, Radhatri Nethralaya, was recently conferred the prestigious Dr. Chetpet Balakrishnan Bhaskaran oration award by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Tamil Nadu State branch.
During the 65th annual conference of IMA TNSB, which was held at Vellore on December 11, IMA State president Dr. S.S. Sukumar presented the award to her.
The oration involved a talk by her on "Retina: A window to our body", which highlighted how the different retinal disorders could give a clue about what is wrong with our body and conversely how the body problems affect the course of retinal disorders.
Dr. Vasumathy Vedantham is the consultant vitreoretinal surgeon and one of the medical directors of Radhatri Nethralaya. She has a distinguished academic record and the prestigious Rakesh Sharma Memorial Award conferred by All India Ophthalmologic Society (AIOS) for best work in ocular trauma in India in 2005. She was earlier conferred with the Hanumantha Reddy Award for the best work done in pediatric ophthalmology in India.
The award recognises her exemplary work on eye infections in children. She is a member of Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. The present award was for her work in the field of retina over the past ten years. She can be reached on 2433 2229.
