Madras Mylapore Round Table 3 (MMRT 3) and the Madras Mylapore Ladies Circle 4 (MMLC 4), which have been doing community service, have jointly collected funds to expand the Gurukulam School, Kovalam.
The new classrooms at Gurukulam School, which were constructed at a cost of Rs. 15.5 lakhs, were inaugurated by actor Ramya Krishnan, in the presence of the National President of Ladies Circle India, AditiRao.
“What started as a school with just 34 children from the fisherman’s village that was affected by the Tsunami in Panayur, the school now has over 200 children who benefit from free education,” said Ami Gupta, Chairperson MMLC 4. The students come from the nearby villages from Panayur and Kovalam.
Ms. AditiRao said that she was impressed by the way children spoke fluently in English and performed karate, yoga and dance.
From LKG, the children have gone up to Class VII. With support from MMRT 3 and MMLC 4, every year new classrooms is being built so that children can complete their secondary education.
The new classrooms were constructed at a cost of Rs. 15.5 lakhs
