A Gujarat Handloom and Handicrafts exhibition organised by the Gujarat Emporium is on at Vijay Raja Thirumana Mandapam, First Avenue Road, Shastri Nagar, Adyar.
Craft persons from all over India are participating in the exhibition at which handicraft products ranging from rich embroidery from Kutch, Banki, a remote village near the India-Pakistan border, traditional Ajraku and Chuuni (block print) are on display. A large number of garments such as salwar suits, jackets, skirts, sarees, bed covers, cushion covers arealso on offer. One can also find applique work done by Kutch craftsmen, besides embroidery work on wall hangings, tie & dye on fabrics, silk sarees and dress materials from Jamnagar and Bhj Mandi of Kutch District.
Bead work torans, metal engraving on aluminium and brass sheet metal from Ahmedabad-Rajkot, Rajasthan bangles, carpets, terracotta items and a range of jewellery boxes, photo frames and several utility items and gift articles are among the numerous things on sale. A special festival discount up to 20 per cent on handloom and handicrafts is being given to customers. The exhibition is open between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.
