Tamil Nadu Interventional Council (TIC) is a newly formed body affiliated to the Cardiological Society of Chennai Chapter and Cardiological Society of India.
This Forum has been created to form a common platform for interaction among cardiologists throughout Tamil Nadu. The council was inaugurated by Governor of Tamil Nadu K. Rosaiah, at Hotel Hilton, on January 5.
This was followed by a one day CME programme wherein nine live cases done from 3 hospitals in Chennai – The Madras Medical Mission, Billroth Hospital and Fortis Malar Hospital - were transmitted to the venue at Hotel Hilton.
The workshop was attended by around 200 cardiologists from all over Tamil Nadu. Reputed cardiologists from international and national centres attended the conference as faculty and interacted with the audience. “The highlight was the introduction of a newer Drug Eluting Stent which will not only elute drug but would also disappear totally from the artery within eight months. This is the latest cutting edge technology developed in the field of interventional cardiology”. This information was given by TIC, General Secretary, Dr. J. Ezhilan and Joint Secretaries, Dr. Damodaran and Dr. Madan Mohan.
This council will have a national interventional cardiology training course for budding cardiologists across the country. This step would go a long way in reducing the morbidity and mortality of coronary artery disease in Tamil Nadu, doctors said.
