Age is no barrier in sports. Gayathre Rajam of Madras Club proved this when she won a silver medal in an international triathlon event held in Sri Lanka recently.

In all over there were over 400 participants from more than 35 countries including Australia, Hongkong, South Africa, UK, India, Srilanka, Japan and Korea. Gayathre's success came in the 45-50 years age group. It was only recently that she had returned with two medals in swimming at the Masters meet held in Bangalore.

This time it was the tough sport of triathlon, which involved 1.5 km of swimming in the ocean, 40 km cycling, and 10 km of running, that she found some success.

A mother of three children, Gayathre was a sportsperson in her younger days. She had represented Tamil Nadu State in various events including swimming, hockey and tennis. A yoga exponent, she has been teaching the art for the last five years.
