For a tournament in only its third edition, the Augustine Thomas Cup state-ranking tennis event has risen in popularity. Conducted by the SDAT-Prince Tennis Academy in Mogappair, the tournament this time received over 200 entries from various parts of the state for the U-14, U-12 and U-10 age categories.

Good prize money, lovely trophies and some keen contests have been the added attractions in this tournament which was named after a Customs Officer, a lover of sports, who died in an airport accident in 1984.

The Tamil Nadu Tennis Association nominated Ganesan to supervise the matches. None must have enjoyed the competition more than Abinika who annexed both the U-14 and U-12 girls' titles. Gokul emerged the boys' winner in U-14 and Lokesh in the U-12 category. The Under-10 category which was combined event for both boys and girls, Ojes Thejo was the winner. IAS officer Mrs Karthika and Dr Karthik Kailash were the chief guests on the final day. Binu of the Prince Academy won a special prize for topping the state ranking in 2009-10.
