There is good news for foodies in and around Velachery. A new restaurant, “Peaches”, has come up on 100 Ft Bypass Road, Velachery, which prides itself as an upmarket vegetarian restaurant that satiates the entire family.
Venkatesh Kannan, who has started this venture in partnership with two of his friends, says: “We felt that there was a need to fill a niche in the market for a fine-dining restaurant that offers food choices for different age groups in a single family.
The tagline of Peaches says: “The world on your plate.” True to this, the restaurant serves up a wide variety of exciting world cuisine that is adapted to suit the local palate.
Venkatesh, who has done his MBA in Entrepreneurship and Finance and worked in Hungary for some time, says that he was impressed by the restaurants there which worked as a café-lounge between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and as a regular restaurant for the rest of the time. “I wanted to introduce this concept here. Peaches is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., we serve only world cuisine and beverages. The rest of the time, we offer north Indian, south Indian and international menu.”
Raghu Viswanathan, one of the partners (the third being Niranjan Babu), says their aim is to attract the youth, young families with kids and IT employees. “One can find in our menu something for everyone in the family”, he states.
The duo is happy that they were able to get experienced chefs who fulfil their expectations.
Says Venkatesh: “We (partners) are big foodies and are particular about what we want on the menu. The feedback we have received so far from our customers is also good. They love the food and, may be, they would like it to come to them a little faster,” he admits. “We are still finding our feet and are working towards ensuring faster service,” he assures.
Sharanya, a homemaker, accompanied by her husband Abishek, had come all the way from Nungambakkam for a repeat experience of dining at Peaches.
Sharanya likes the “good ambience, bright lights, soft music and the huge menu” at the restaurant.
“Since we are unfamiliar with many of the European and Continental dishes, we ask the hotel staff themselves about the ingredients in the dishes before making our choice. We are happy with this place,” she smiles.
For Abishek, ample parking space in the area is a big relief.
As for the restaurant’s popular dishes, Venkatesh says it is the Phuket Paneer, which is fried like a fish, Cream and Cheese Mushroom Tortellini and of course, the Chennai Kuchchi Varuval (Indianised potato French fry). And their signature dish, Raghu Viswanthan says, is the Paella, a rice-based pan fried dumpling that is “an Oriental comfort food.”
Both friends insist that they want “to keep on reinventing food to provide joy to our customers.” They also plan to have a Festival celebration every month and introduce new menu each season.
