Virtusa Corporation (NASDAQ: VRTU), a global IT services company organised a cyclathon, an awareness drive to spread the message of eco-friendliness, recently. The company's employees, including David Raj, Global HR Head, Virtusa Corporation, and Venkatachalam Kanthimathinath, Chennai ATC Delivery Head, participated in the event.

The objective of the Cyclathon was to create awareness about adopting environmental-friendly practices. The event focused on encouraging people to use cycle as the mode of transport, reinforcing the importance of reducing carbon emission and providing clean air for the next generation, apart from pointing out that cycling also makes one fit and healthy.

About 50 employees of Virtusa participated in the awareness drive and cycled from Tidel Park to Mahabalipuram, covering a distance of around 35 to 40 kms. The cyclathon began at 5 a.m.

Speaking on the occasion, David Raj, Global HR Head, Virtusa, said “At Virtusa, Environmental accountability is an integral part of the company's corporate values. We are committed to protecting the environment and enhancing the value of health by focusing on and highlighting the use of eco-friendly approaches, which includes modes of transportation.”

He added, “This initiative will also help our team members to bond with each other and make them feel the importance of being responsible to the society. We are happy that this event will set the trend for others to follow and would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants who are determined to make this world a better place.”

Virtusa's ‘Sustainability Initiatives' focuses on creating, building and sustaining a positive social impact. The company has taken tangible steps to help protect environment and make the workplaces eco-friendly.

Some of these initiatives include adoption of Green IT practices and low carbon footprint initiatives, among others.
