Vels Nakshatra, national level cultural fest, was organised by Vels University at its campus in Pallavaram on March 2 and 3. More than 40 colleges participated in the fest. The show was inaugurated by actress-singer Andrea Jeremiah. The stage was shared by director A.L. Vijay, an Alumni of Vels University. Events such as B-boy battle, short film contest, rock band, fashion show, variety and choreonight turned out to be huge draws amongst the contestants and the audience alike. Choreonight, the last event on the concluding day saw over 15 teams participating, and the top three honours went to Madha Engineering College, Madras Christian College (MCC) and Loyola College respectively. The curtains came down on the two-day event with a stupendous guest performance by ‘The Fifth Element,' one of the leading groups in the country. The stunning performances from the contestants had the crowd on their toes throughout. The short film had over nine contestants lined up, and was judged by actor-director Pandiarajan, cinematographer Y.N. Murali and director Balaji Mohan. Mr. Pandiarajan was all praise for the quality of the short films showcased. Actor-director Parthiban distributed prizes to the winners.
