Cultural fest at play school

Learning Tree Montessori School staged its 10{+t}{+h}annual concert recently at the MGR Janaki College auditoriumTwo English plays and a dance drama were performed by 40 to 60 children. The invocation dance was specially choreographed. The School Song was also unveiled for the first time.

Principal Sudha Narayan, in her annual report, highlighted the achievements of the school during the year. The school continued to maintain its top 10 ranking in Education World’s list of best pre-schools in Chennai.

The children had won laurels in the Olympiads of the Science Olympiad Foundation. The school also did creditably in the inter-school competitions held by the Children’s Society, Mylapore, bagging three first prizes and two second prizes.

G. Shankar, Honorary Secretary of the Mylapore Children’s Club and a senior management consultant, was the chief guest. In his address he disapproved of the tendency to build up immense pressure children to excel in academics as they moved to the higher classes.

He argued that there was a need to keep a balance between academics and other interests right through a child’s schooling years. He advised parents to develop in their children at least one interest outside of academics which would remain with them right through their lives.
