A series of events have been organised by various organisations and institutions in Chennai for the World Breastfeeding Week celebration from August 1 to 7 to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies. WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding until a baby is six months old, and continued breastfeeding with the addition of nutritious complementary foods for up to two years or beyond.
St. Isabel Hospital will hold an event on Training in implementing Breastfeeding Skills on August 1, Government Institute of Child Health, Egmore will hold a programme on Ten Steps for Successful Breastfeeding on August 2, Kanchi Kamakoti Child Trust Hospital will have an event on Public forum on Breastfeeding on August 3.
The event at KM Speciality Hospital, KK Nagar will be on Preparing antenatal mothers about the benefit and management of breastfeeding on August 4.

Roots to Wings, Anna Nagar, will create awareness on Ways to maintain lactation & breastfeed for working women on August 5, GG Hospital will hold a programme on Ways to maintain breastfeed and lactation even if mothers are separated from infants from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on August 6.
Vanilla Childrens Place will conduct a programme to Encourage breastfeed on demand - Avoidance of artificial teethers and pacifiers for Infants on August 7.
