Having someone with a deep passion for hockey as a Correspondent of a school helps in the development of the sport at the school level. G. Jeevan Jayaraj, the Correspondent of Ruskin School in St. Thomas Mount, a former state player that way is an inspiration for school-level talents. “Grooming young children in hockey,” is his idea and toward this end took the lead in organising a Children's day inter-school tournament in 2006. In four years, the event has grown. With 16 boy's and 12 girl's teams the tournament has all the ingredients of a good competition. The tournament was held on Astroturf at the Mayor Radhakrishnan stadium. Conducted on a knockout format, the eventual winner in the boy's section turned out to be St Paul's, which beat Madrasa-I-Azam 2-0 with D. Surender and B. Vignesh being the scorers. Aside from trophies, three best players received Vampire hockey sticks each. Prof M. Thyagarajan, Director, Bharat University gave away the prizes.
