The valedictory function of the St. Joseph’s-CFA league was held at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium last week. Cash awards to the winners and the next three teams were presented by Dr. Babu Manoharan, Director, St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, the title sponsor (Rs. 5.5 lakhs). The cash award of Rs.40000 for the Champion, Arrows FC, was received by coach K. Thiagarajan and captain T. Antony Xavier. Chennai Customs, ICF and Southern Railway received Rs. 30,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively. The speakers thanked the players, clubs, sponsor and the media for the successful conduct of the tournament. Morgan Justice (Arrows), the highest scorer (11 goals) received a cash award of Re.5000 presented by Deccan Chronicle sports staff. It was dedicated to the memory of sports writer M.Z. Tanveer who passed away recently, A. Ghulam Hussain, Chairman of the CFA Ad-hoc presented a memento to Babu Manoharan.
