SRI LALITHA LEARNING CENTRE FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN, Choolaimedu, organised activities to bridge the emotional bond between children and senior citizens, as part of Grandparents' Day on February 29.

School Founder, Lata Lakshminarayanan, said, “Generally, the role of grandparents in the present education system is minimal but they can play a vital role in moulding the future of their grandchildren. As they are much more experienced, they can definitely help them in carving out a better future.”

ANNAI VEILANKANNI COLLEGE conducted Astral -2012, a two-day intercollegiate cultural fest from March 8. More than 25 colleges participated in the competitions. Off-Stage events such as Sollal Adi - Varthai pudhir, poster making, jewellery making, face painting, best out of e-waste, mehendhi, Block & Tackle, Battle of Wits were conducted on the first day. The second day saw on stage events, inaugurated by actor Jayam Ravi Guna of Flyerz Dance Academy, music director James Vasanthan, ‘Asatha Povathu Yaaru' Director Rajkumar and Sun Tv news reader Ranjith, Autograph film fame & Guinness book record holder Comahan, Airtel Super Singers Shakthi & Pooja, choreographer Andrea Jacob and John Vinu were invited to be the judges for the events. JBAS College of Arts and Science bagged the rolling trophy.


SHRI SHANKARLAL SUNDARBAI SHASUN JAIN COLLEGE FOR WOMEN organised the 7th College Day celebrations on March 6 at Vani Mahal, G.N.Chetty Road, T. Nagar. The chief guest for the occasion was K. Jayaramakrishnan, Vice President, Global Alliances, Tata Consultancy Services. The other dignitaries present for the occasion were the secretary and correspondent, Vimal Kumar Srisrimal, the Associate Secretary Gyan Jain and the Executive Committee members, Manju Dugar, Usha Abhayakumar and Vimala Jain.

He mentioned that the college aims at imparting quality education to the young aspirants and enable them to meet the needs of the changing world. The Principal Dr. B. Poorna gave the annual report of the year 2011-12 highlighting the achievements of the college in various spheres. The chief guest then released the college magazine ‘Shasuneon'. Mr. K. Jayaramakrishnan congratulated the management and the principal for their innumerable achievements.

He said the students must focus on workshops, seminars, national and international conferences. Participation in seminars would help them to develop their communication capabilities, he said.
