The annual brahmotsavam festival of Sri Kandaswamy Temple in Park Town was inaugurated amid much fanfare on January 9 with hundreds of devotees visiting the temple.
The temple famously called Kandakottam is one of the oldest temples in north Chennai, where the festival is celebrated year after year in a grand manner.
During the 19-day festival organised by Sri Muthukumaraswamy Devasthanam from January 10 to 28, the utsavar moorthy decked in floral arrangements and mounted on difference vahanams, including Karpaga vriksham, Simmham, Mesham and peacock each day would be taken around the streets of Park Town for the devotees to have a glimpse of the deity.
Lion S. Muthu, Senior Trustee, Sri Muthukumaraswamy Devasthanam, said the temple car festival would be held on January 16 followed by the gold-plated horse procession to be held on January 17. On January 20, the deity would visit Kachaleeswarar Temple, with the deity proceeding to Royapuram on January 24. The important festival ‘Sri Valliammai thirukalayanam' will be held on January 25.
The devasthanam has made adequate security arrangements for the thousands of devotees visiting the temple.
