Personnel of the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department have been carrying out several awareness programmes on safe bursting of crackers and other fireworks and to ensure an incident or injury-free Deepavali this year.

As part of this campaign, personnel from the Department conducted an event at S.C.S.Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Nehru Nagar, Chromepet.

R. Nataraj, Director General of Police and Director, TN Fire and Rescue Services Department, was the chief guest. Firemen demonstrate the safe handling and bursting of different varieties of crackers. Students were also asked to burst crackers on the occasion. The students were reminded that they should fire the crackers from a safe distance and under the supervision of elders. The students were also given tips on first aid measures to be taken in the event of an injury. V. Santhanam, school correspondent and Priya Ravichandran, Divisional Fire Officer, were among others present.

While Deepavali is a festival that serves as an occasion for members to remain and celebrate together, it will be an altogether different story for the firemen on the festival day. Leaving nothing to chance and to prevent any untoward incident, the firemen would respond to the call of duty and would be part of mobile patrol teams all over the city and its suburbs.
