They are no ordinary footwear. It brings out the typical traditional look when worn with kurta-pyjama. Marriages, festivals and parties, be it any occasion, the Kolhapuri chappal is a must have in your wardrobe.

Right from the plain design to intricate work with beads and ribbons, jute and cotton threads, the variety that the shops offer will have the buyer spoilt for choice.

The foot wear shops situated bang opposite Manju theatre stock this variety of the foot wear. But its not only Kolhapuri footwear, one can also find the ‘Saleem Shahi jhutah' at this place in various sizes, patterns and colours.

“The price range depends on the quality of the footwear,” says Kamal Ahmed a shopkeeper.

A Kolhapuri chappal could cost anywhere between Rs.90 and Rs.300.

“These are sourced from the same traders who supply in the old city market. While some of the buyers go all the way to old city, we have many customers here whenever there is a festive occasion,” says another shopkeeper.

“Kolhapuri chappals can be worn to work as well as special occasion. Most of the people wear these kind of footwear during summers. A speciality about the chappal is that we get different kinds of them and can place customised orders to suit ones tastes,” explains Vinay Singh, a regular customer from Chilkalguda.
