Prof. Syed Sajjad Husain has taken charge as Director of Oriental Research Institute, University of Madras with effect from April.
Mr. Husain who is Head of the Department of Arabic, Persian and Urdu, has been credited with numerous awards for his outstanding services to Urdu language and literature with one such award conferred by the Governor Surjit Singh Barnala.
Mr. Husain, who served as chairperson of School of Sanskrit and other Indian Language besides Chairman Board of Studies in Urdu, was also presented with the Best Professor and Scholar award for his contribution to formal and distance education in Tamil Nadu.
As Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Urdu Text Book Committee, he compiled Urdu text books from Classes I to XII. Being associated with Urdu organisations at State and national level, he published more than 50 research papers in national and international journals and has written five books.
