The Lions Club of Nehru Nagar East has appealed to the Kancheepuram district administration to devote special attention to Pozhichalur Village Panchayat, that has completely lost the faith of its residents due to the pathetic condition of amenities. The Panchayat administration and its elected representatives had miserably failed to meet the expectations of its people and the condition of roads, overhead water tanks, public fountains, school buildings and the sanitary complexes for women and children were appalling. Water supply was erratic and the list of woes was endless, said the members.

In a representation to the Kancheepuram district collector and other senior officials of the district administration, the District Rural Development Agency and other departments, K.Sanjaya Kumar of the club said that the roads in Agastheeswara Nagar, Prem Nagar and Malliga Nagar among others were in shambles for decades.

The panchayat had failed to effectively implement good solid waste management practices as garbage was dumped in open spaces all over Pozhichalur. The location of the Primary Health Centre had been drawing flak from residents as it was in the farthest corner and the approach roads leading to it were poor. It was in the midst of unhygienic surroundings. Dumping and burning of garbage around the PHC and stagnation of contaminated water and sewage worsened the problems.

Stating that the grievances fell on the deaf ears of the panchayat administration and its elected members, Sanjaya Kumar said they were now approaching the district administration. A team of members from the club had conducted a detailed study of the condition of basic amenities in the panchayat. They have documented the study with photos of bad roads, garbage in open spaces and the poor condition of government buildings and have submitted them at the collectorate.
