AP girls clinch the honours at gymnastic championships

Girls from Andhra Pradesh put up good performances in the 23rd national rhythmic gymnastic championships which was held in Agra (UP) recently. In the senior category Alika Joe bagged no less than four bronze medals including the all-round individual bronze medal for her age group. Her other medals came in the ball, ribbon and club competitions.

Andhra Pradesh bagged a well-deserved silver medal in the team championships in senior and junior categories.

Other girls also did well in various age groups and they provided ample evidence that the talent in the State is rapidly coming to the fore.

Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which individual participants or teams compete against each other in various styles of competition using different types of apparatus. These include clubs, hoops, balls, ribbons and ropes and the sport combines different elements of ballet, gymnastics and dance.

Those who won medals in their respective categories were:

Seniors : Alika Joe (four bronze medals) and Ch. Kavya (one bronze).

Juniors : Shree Yashi D.G. (one bronze), Deekshita (one bronze), Deepika (one silver).

Under 12 : G. Ananya (all round individual gold and ball, hoops and ribbon golds), Prinayka Sagar (one silver and one bronze).

Under 10: C.H. Sri (one gold and two silver), Harshita (one silver) and Simantha (one bronze).

Under-8: A. Neelopala (one silver).
