Andhra Bank, a Government of India undertaking, has opened its 49{+t}{+h}branch in the city at R.A. Puram. The branch was inaugurated by Justice R. Sudhakar, Judge, High Court, Madras, on May 20 at 10 a.m. in the presence of R. Ramachandran, Chairman and MD of the bank.

This branch, the 78{+t}{+h}in Chennai Zone (Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry), will function from Old No.17, New No.31, Lazarus Church Road, R.A.Puram.

During the inauguration, the bank felicitated popular personalities such as Pappu Venugopal Rao, Sikkil Gurucharan and Smitha Madhav.

According to the branch manager N. Hariharan, “Although there are branches in Mylapore and Alwarpet areas, this is the first one to benefit residents of Mandaveli, Mandavelipakkam, R.A. Puram and MRC Nagar. As it is located in a residential area, its services will be personalised and close to the customers.”

Also as the branch is just off the Main Road (Santhome High Road), parking will be easier and customers will feel free to make use of the services.

Facilities

As the bank is under the core banking solutions, any customer of other branch can transact here. It offers savings account, current account with Rs. One lakh insurance cover. RD Plus is available with top-up monthly instalments up to 10 times. AB Super Salary SB Account and Kalpataruvu deposits are some of the other benefits.

The bank also offers services such as mobile banking, house, education and car loans. Western Union Money Transfer and locker facilities are also available.

Attractive rates

Internet banking is offered with the following facilities — account related information; fund transfer; payment of utility bills, online shopping, payment of credit card bills, online trading and donations to temples and charitable institutes.

The bank offers attractive interest rates on term deposits. For 500 to 1000 days it is 9.25 per cent per annum and for senior citizens it is 9.75 per cent per annum.

The bank, along with Bank of Baroda and IOB, has entered into a tie up for setting up a banking subsidiary in Malaysia. The bank's stake in the venture is 25 per cent.

The bank has a customer friendly initiative involving complaint redressal system through mobile SMS called ‘UPSET'. Any customer who is not comfortable with the bank's service can give an SMS to 96666 06060 by typing the word ‘UPSET'. Action will be taken immediately by the bank.

Customers or staff can learn a Hindi word a day, which is written on a notice board. The bank plans to start an on-site ATM at the branch premises shortly.
