Chennai collegian Abhishek Ashokan did himself proud by winning a gold medal in the first Asian classic (unequipped) powerlifting championship held in Coimbatore recently. A second year student of Jeppiar Engineering college, Abhishek’s interest in sports is understandable, for his father Ashokan Nair was a former international basketball player and now working with ONGC. Showing an early interest in body-building and lifting weights, his talent was well tuned by former Asian junir powerlifting champion Vinayan, who works for ICF.
