cinema Director I. Ahmed hopes to win young hearts with his second film Endrendrum Punnagai

After Vaamanan , director I. Ahmed targets the youth of Tamil Nadu with Endrendrum Punnagai. A romantic comedy set in Chennai, the movie features Jiiva and Trisha in lead roles, apart from comedian Santhanam.

The director is confident that the film will appeal to the urban youth. He explains, “A lot of urban films continuously failed at the box office. I could sense that this was because the films weren’t unique.”

Ahmed has hence attempted to make a fresh ‘urban movie’. He has incorporated situations that would happen in everyone’s life in the script. “It also has a good dose of comedy and, of course, love and friendship. That way, youngsters can relate to the film.”

Ahmed says that the film’s flavour is similar to that of Dil Chahta Hai. Does it touch upon issues that affect the youth of today? “No. It is just a fun film that youngsters will enjoy.” Didn’t he consider casting fresh faces for his movie? “Truth be told, I did want a fresh face. I auditioned many actors for the role that Trisha has portrayed in the film. But, nobody could have played the role as well as she did.”
