Wild goose chase

Amajor suburb of Hyderabad, Attapur and its open space in a quiet colony formed an ideal site to erect a police station set to film a crucial scene for Chandrakala and R.V. Sriram Ajay’s debut production, Dorakadu . As we stepped into the set, we spotted hero Sivaji, Suman and Gharshana fame Srinivas in police uniforms. Seated a little away from them was Gautham Raju who plays an assistant sub inspector of police and Kondavalasa Lakshmana Rao, cast as a constable. Once the lighting arrangement by the camera unit helmed by cinematographer E.H.S. Prasad is done, all the actors faced the camera under the watchful eyes of director Varaprasad. Suman started the conversation while Sivaji and Srinivas listened in rapt attention. A couple of retakes later the shot is okayed.

During the break, Varaprasad explains the scene: “It is part of an investigation. A series of murders takes place in the city and a special officer from Delhi arrives to solve the mystery. Suman plays the special officer. Gharshana Srinivas dons the city police commissioner’s role and Sivaji a police officer. All through the strategic conversation, Sivaji remains cool and calm. Interestingly, he holds the key to the answers but does not reveal. Why he behaves so forms the main plot, leading to a thrilling climax. His role has both negative and positive shades,” smiles the director. Incidentally, Varaprasad’s debut movie, Thoorpu Godavari is slated for release in February and this is his second production.

“It is an action entertainer. Gayathri is cast as an innocent woman who falls in love with the hero. A ghastly incident to her leads to the twists and turns in the story. Ajay is the antagonist. But the murders take place in such a way that people wonder whether they are committed by a ghost or a devil in human form. Suspense is our USP and it is maintained till the climax. Our cinematographer Prasad shot such scenes with steady-cam to create the right mood,” he says.

The five songs composed by newcomer Sunil Dharma are an added attraction, says the director. “We have to shoot two duets on the lead pair and a four-day talkie work including an action sequence (choreographed by ‘Martial’ Ramana) on Suman. We plan to shoot them from January 28 in various locations in Hyderabad,” he signs off.

Co-produced by Muni Reddy, the movie is slated for release in March.
