Growing Up – Black Bear

(Animal Planet, Sunday, 10 p.m.)

Bred in captivity by unscrupulous backyard dealers in wildlife, Charlie, a baby black bear, went from an Internet auction to being rescued by Peggy Callahan, Director of Minnesota’s Wildlife Science Centre. At the centre, Charlie learns abut being a bear. This is the story of Charlie’s first six months as he grows from a cuddly ball of fluff into an unpredictable adolescent. The time also comes when the caretakers must distance themselves from the ‘baby’ and allow him to follow his natural instinct to hibernate. As Charlie disappears into his den, he leaves behind the human world and enters the true life of a black bear.
