Confessions of a Shopaholic
(STAR Movies, Friday, 11.25 p.m.)
Struggling with her obsession with shopping and the sudden collapse of her income source, Rebecca Bloomwood unintentionally lands as a writer for a financial magazine after a drunken letter-mailing mix-up.
Ironically writing about the very consumer caution of which she herself has not abided by, Rebecca's innovative comparisons and unconventional metaphors for economics grant her critical acclaim, public success, and the admiration of her supportive boss Luke. But as she draws closer to her ultimate goal of writing for renowned fashion magazine Alette, she questions her true ambitions and must determine if overcoming her ‘shopaholic' condition will bring her real happiness.
(STAR Movies, Saturday, 9 p.m.)
Jim Carrey stars as Bruce Nolan, a television reporter in Buffalo, New York, who lives a normal life with his girlfriend Grace (Jennifer Aniston). But Bruce isn't satisfied, and after a particularly bad day where everything goes wrong, he blames God. After spewing a tirade of curses God's way, God (Morgan Freeman) responds and challenges Bruce to take over and see if he can run things better.
Of course, there are some conditions: Bruce can only have the ‘almighty' powers for 24 hours and only in the Buffalo area. This doesn't stop Bruce, and he responds to his newfound powers with selfish, childlike zeal and sets about making hysterical yet disastrous decisions one after the other.
