Pritam (Shashi Kapoor) loves the wealthy Deepali (Babita) who is in love with Ajit (Prem Chopra). Deepali is unaware of Ajit's playboy tendencies. Pritam tries hard to win her love only to be disappointed. Deepali's uncle Choudhary (Om Prakash) is aware of Pritam's love for his niece. He is also aware that she is in love with Ajit who is out to get what he can from her. So Uncle Choudhary helps Pritam get the girl of his dreams.

Honest and tough cop Samar Pratap Singh (Manoj Bajpai) arrives at a remote place in Uttar Pradesh, with his wife Manjari (Raveena Tandon) and daughter. His honesty sets him up against his superior (Vallabh Vyas), as well as his subordinates and fellow officers. His diligence in maintaining law and order, and his belief in justice for all, regardless of one's background, makes him a powerful enemy of Bachu Yadav (Sayaji Shinde), the local MLA. Yadav will not stop at anything to get rid of Samar and his family.
