Adnan Sami

Born in Pakistan, he was raised in the U.K., holds Canadian citizenship and is popular in India. The singer, pianist, composer and actor Adnan Sami says he listens to everything and anything that sounds good to his ears. Excerpts from an interview:

Having grown up in London, Western music must have influenced your work

Singing Western and Indian classical music, has allowed me to create a blend and balance between the two genres. That is why you often hear both the guitar and the tabla and dholak in my compositions.

Who is your Indian inspiration?

I am most inspired by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Also Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, who has also been my guru. I learnt Indian classical music from him.

You are the fastest keyboard player and you love the piano

I never tried to become the fastest keyboard player in the world. This is something that happens by chance.

The piano is the first musical instrument that I touched. I started playing the piano when I was five years old. It is very much a part of my life, and my true passion.

Your current projects?

I am doing two movies and they will be coming next year; both are commercial family entertainers... I am also working on my album which should be released in January . It features a mix of fun and party music as well as some romantic numbers.
