What it is about…
The audio of Karuppampatti , produced by Sundar K and directed by Prabhu Raja Cholan, was released recently by director S. A. Chandrasekaran and received by Abirami Ramanathan. The story revolves around Kothai Cocopardo, a French citizen of Indian origin, who after his father Manohar’s death, comes to India in search of his roots. Ajmal plays both father and son in the film that travels from 1980 to 2011. Besides Ajmal, the cast comprises Aparna, M.S. Bhaskar, Srinath, Jagan, Mahadevan, Devadarshini, Chethan, Ganesh and Archana Shastri. The cinematography is by Santhosh Sriram, the music by Kannan, the lyrics by Kapilan and the editing by B. Lenin.
There are five songs in the album and Bappi Lahiri’s ‘Naughty Raja Raja’ is the best. ‘Kannamma,’ sung by a group of girls, is targeted at young men. ‘Karuppampatti,’ sung by Naveen, Mukesh, Senthil and Surmuki, underlines the significance of the Pongal festival. ‘Oh Indira’ is beautifully sung by Karthik and Sayanora Philip — here the accordion, double bass, trumpets and guitars have been used to make it sound retro. ‘Adaleru kalai’ is about the jallikattu and sung with gusto by Rahul Nambiar and Mukesh.
