chat Jagapati Babu makes his Kannada debut with ‘Bachchan’
Jagapati Babu has been shuttling between Hyderabad, Chennai and Karnataka for the past few months. Currently dubbing for director A.L.Vijay’s Siva Thandavam in Chennai, he talks about his debut in Kannada movies. On being asked what made him do a Kannada film at this point of time in his career, he retorts immediately, “I didn’t, they thought they will try me out. Sudeep is a good friend and he said he will take care of the production and direction so I was a kind of confident. The movie is titled Bachchan . People say there are a lot of similarities between Kannada and Telugu and I also thought it was easy, theera chooste inko laa undi . It was difficult. It is fun working here but what I noticed is, be it a city or the interiors, people are overawed by film stars and show their reverence to them like they do to Gods. Even if I walk on the road they stop and take pictures, back in Hyderabad and Chennai people are used to us.”
About his presence in Siva Thandavam , he adds that his role heightens the drama. The film is Thandavam in Tamil but Siva Thandavam in Telugu as Vikram has some sentiments attached to it. He had done Sivaputrudu earlier. On one hand Jagapati is working with Sudeep and down south with Vikram, this makes it a multi-starrer with three tall, handsome and talented people with equal footing giving an edge to the story. While the Kannada film will not be released here immediately, Siva Thandavam is a bi-lingual and will release simultaneously.
In Siva Thandavam which has been stylishly shot, he is a RAW officer. Both the actors play friends, Vikram reportedly being blind. Jagapati quips, “Vikram is a sweet guy to everyone, he is very helpful, friendly and fun to work and the competition was healthy. I enjoyed it thoroughly.” So is he once again holding a coke can and leaning on the car before striking the baddies? He signs off, “Not this time. Tthis man is a serious officer!”
