Divya Dutta will be seen in Karan Johar’s Gippi this May. Divya, who plays Gippi’s single mother in the film, says she is inspired by her mother, who also raised her single-handedly. “My role is that of a single mother who’s more of a buddy to her daughter. She’s not a stereotypical mom. I did see a lot of my mom in my character. I lost my father when I was seven. My mom raised my brother and me. Though I missed dad, she never let us feel like there was something missing in our lives. She is a doctor and a fun mom. We have done the craziest things together.

Through the terrorism days in Punjab, when everything was shrouded in fear, mom was this fearless professional. She used to write lovely poems and then throw it all in the dustbin. We would collect them and read them and realised that our strong mom was vulnerable too. A few years ago we compiled all those poems and short stories and gifted it to her on Mother’s Day,” she says.
