Guns and poses

There was a time in Tamil cinema when spaghetti Westerns ruled, with the likes of Jaishankar toting six-shooters and Stetsons. Those films went down very well with an audience looking for escapist fare. Now comes Irumbukottai Murattu Singam, where Raghavendra Lawrence does a Clint Eastwood for modern Tamil audiences. Says director Chimbudevan: “My confidence stems from the fact that this is a fantasy movie, and is aimed at all age groups. Guns, hats and horses have been part of our movie culture for ages, and songs such as ‘Mukkala Muqqabla' have kept the cowboy factor alive.”
