K emmanagudi, the picturesque hill station situated in Chickmagalur district with its scenic splendour, lush green forests, ornamental gardens offered an ideal location for producers Siva and Mahi to shoot their romantic tale, Kudhirithe Kappu Coffee, directed by Ramana Salwa.
The setting is a unique house with a circular hut on top to have a ringside view of the nature was created by art director Sasidhar Adapa. In the movie, the house belongs to veteran actress Sukumari who plays grandmother to the heroine (Suma Bhattacharya, debuting in Telugu films). She also runs a kind of a coffee shop on the lawns of her sprawling house. Popular ad filmmaker turned cinematographer Santhosh Roy was taking a candid shot on hero Varun Sandesh who sports a clean shaven look, Suma and Sukumari. It is in this romantic location that love blossoms between the two protagonists.
After filming a major portion of the shoot at Kemmanagudi, the unit shifted to another hill station Madikeri (Mercara) in Kodagu (Coorg) district to film a duet, on the lead pair. While Seetharama Sastry wrote the lyrics including the one, andharilaagaa… filmed on this location, his son Yogeshwara Sarma makes his debut as a music director. “Like father like son, the tunes are a melody,” said Mahi. He is planning to release the audio on December 26.
“The exciting part is the journey of the lead pair in these fascinating locales. It lasts about 30 minutes in the movie with the hill stations forming the backdrop. Other important players in this romantic saga are Thanikella Bharani, Sivannarayana and director Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao as the hero's father.” Mahi who worked in Retail Management Business in U.K and New Zealand made his foray into films to realise his childhood dream, first as an assistant director (Vinayakudu) and then as a producer with Villagelo Vinayakudu. “You need to give yourself five years to establish yourself as a producer in this field. For me content is important. And selection of actors goes accordingly. Content driven movies are always a hit with the audience whether they have big time heroes or rank newcomers. That's where we score in Kudhirithe Kappu Coffee,” says a confident Mahi.
Also shot in various locations in Hyderabad, the film is now in post-production stage and is set for a January release.
