How it happened?
When I was five, we attended a discourse.I felt a deep urge to sing. I startedcrying for the microphone, and didn't stoptill they gave me one. That was the firsttime I sang. After that, I was asked to singa new song during every puja. When I wasten, everyone insisted I learn music. InitiallyI learnt from Nandhini, then fromSwamimalai Janakiraman and SubbulakshmiMuthuswamy. I also trained underS.V. Usha and am currently learningfrom Padma Sandilyan and K.N.Shashikiran.When I was in Class VIII, one of ourfamily friends suggested I sing in one ofhis light music programmes. That was thefirst time I sang a light song on stage. Thedrummer who happened to be workingwith music director Deva told him aboutme.
I sang three songs for Deva when I wasin Class X, but the film is yet to be released.I had given my demo CD to HarrisJayaraj. Six months later I got a call fromhis studio for Anniyan.
How it felt
That was the first time I saw my name on aCD. I was surprised they had given mecredit though I sang only a few lines.People knew there was someone calledSaindhavi only because of this song. Itwas like a dream come true. Though Ihave been appreciated by seniors inthe industry, I have a long way to go.
How life changed
Later, I got to sing a solo in ABCD forD. Imman. That was my first solo thatgot released. Later, the first song I sangfor Vidyasagar in Aadhi (`Durra Dummunu')became popular. Some of myother popular numbers are `Aadi Vaa'from Imsai Arasan and `Kelamal kaiyile'from Azhagiya Thamizh Magan.
However, nothing has changed in mypersonal life. I continue to be the sameperson. So far, I've sung more than 150songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, and cut more than 50 devotionaland light classical albums forvarious companies.
