Producer ‘Aascar’ Ravichandran is eagerly awaiting his forthcoming Leelai, starring fresh faces Shiv Pandit (remember his IPL cricket shows on TV?) and Manshi Parekh. Says Ravichandran: “The film has come out better than my expectations, and I’m looking forward to releasing it by July-end or early August. The music will be out soon, though.” Coming to the music, it has been scored by Satish Chakravarthy, one-time assistant of A.R. Rahman. Says Satish, who has also written the lyrics for two of the five songs: “Both songs have been rendered by Benny Dayal — one is a hip-hop, and the other an acoustic rock number.” The songs of Leelai belong to different genres, and Satish credits the final outcome to ‘Aascar’ Ravichandran’s knowledge of old and new songs.”
Art direction has spawned superstars such as Thota Tharani and Sabu Cyril. Another one making waves is Milan Fernandes, with his very realistic ‘street set’ erected at AVM Studios for Vijay’s Vettaikaran. The street, replete with a temple, looks so natural that it fools curious bystanders. And, his ‘train compartment’ set for a forthcoming Arya film has prompted many to suggest that he would be the ideal candidate to re-design our railway coaches!
Boys to men
Remember the drummer boy from Shankar’s Boys? Well, Thaman is actually a musician at heart and has been drumming and playing keyboards for many a music director such as A.R. Rahman, Mani Sharma and Raj Koti. He was also part of the band Next Generation led by Venkat Prabhu and SP Charan. His Kick in Telugu was a huge musical hit, and Thaman is awaiting the release of his Tamil film Sindhanai Sae, starring R. Yuvan and Madhu Sharma, the audio of which is reportedly doing brisk sales. Says Suchitra, who has sung the song ‘Kakinada Katta’ in the film: “I have known Thaman for a long time, and some of my best songs in recent times have been composed by him.”
