Shrugging off positive cues from easing inflation, the BSE benchmark index Sensex fell by 111 points on Thursday , with Bharti Airtel plunging over reports of spectrum dues.
After a better start at 19639.83, the Sensex tumbled by 110.90 points to end at 19497.18. The NSE index Nifty lost 36 points to end at 5896.95, after touching 5940.20.
The rupee lost 10 paise to close at 53.92 due to renewed dollar demand driven by strengthening of the dollar overseas. The rupee resumed lower at 53.85 against the previous close of 53.82 per dollar. The rupee declined further to 53.97 before ending the day at 53.92.—PTI
