Shrugging off Budget blues, the BSE benchmark index Sensex bounced back to end nearly 57 points higher at 18918.52 on value-buying. The 30-share index , which had tumbled 291 points on Thursday, opened firm and rose to an intra-day high of 18988.97. It closed at 18918.52, a gain of 56.98 points. On similar lines, the National Stock Exchange Nifty index rose by 26.65 points to end at 5719.70.
The rupee fell by a whopping 53 paise to close at nearly a two-month low of 54.89 due to heavy dollar demand from oil importers The rupee commenced lower at 54.65 a dollar against the previous close of 54.36 at the interbank foreign exchange market. It hovered in a range of 54.40-54.94, before ending the day at 54.89. —PTI
