In a highly volatile trade, the BSE benchmark Sensex, on Wednesday, surrendered over 214-point gain to close 48 points lower at two-week low of 22417 on fag-end profit-booking. The BSE Sensex opened better and surged 214 points to 22680.46 on sustained capital inflows. However, profit-booking emerged towards end of trading, and the index shed all its gains to settle at 22417.80, a loss of 48.39 points its previous close.

The 50-share Nifty of NSE also moved down by 18.85 points to finish at 6696.40.

Rupee up 11 paise

The rupee, on Wednesday, appreciated by 11 paise to close at more than one-week high of 60.31 against the dollar on sustained selling of the U.S. currency. At the inter-bank foreign exchange market, the rupee resumed higher at 60.35 a dollar against its last close of 60.42. It moved in a narrow range before ending at 60.31, a net gain of 11 paise. — PTI
